Newborn and Infant Skin Care

We women are concerned about the health of the skin for a healthy skin means a beautiful skin, face and body. But there's more than that. A healthy skin contributes to the health of the entire body. Skin is the largest organ of the body and the first barrier to germs, viruses and bacteria. It also represents a mechanical and thermal barrier, keeping the body temperature and absorbing shocks, protects us against solar radiation and ensures a part of the excretion function through sweat glands.

Here's how our skin fulfils many roles. No wonder that its health is so important, more when it is a baby, which is more sensitive and more fragile than we adults.

At first, baby's skin cannot successfully perform all the duties that are not yet fully developed. That is why we hear everywhere that babies are more sensitive to extreme temperature and they do not sweat. Therefore, the newborn and infant skin requires special care, which gently cleans it, without assaulting it.

Proper skin care begins with a balanced and healthy diet. Of course, the best food for the baby is mother's milk. When you cannot breastfeed, formula is chosen by the doctor.

When we take the child out in summer, do not forget the UV rays that can easily burn the sensitive skin of the baby. The roof of the cart is used to keep the shade and the baby is dressed casually, but with long sleeves that cover the skin. You should not miss the hat on its head. Every baby gets many, many clothes and toys from family and friends of parents. But the material these objects are made of can give allergy and when you have about so many different things you do not know why those bumps occurred on the hands. Before giving your child an object is better to touch it with the wrist, and within hours, if there is no sign of allergy, we can give it. Or, if it is not possible this way, we shall at least wash each garment or plush toy with a hypoallergenic detergent before we give it to the baby.

Bath is a delicate moment. Both household products and water can dry the skin of the baby. It is not necessary to do bath every day, because infants do not really have where to dirty. It is enough to wash its bottom every time we change the diaper and the area around its mouth after every meal. Water can dry the skin, especially if hot, the bath should not take too long and the temperature must be right. Products used must be specifically for babies, the soap and shampoo also, hypoallergenic, with balanced PH.

After every bath we wipe well the skin by dabbing or expecting to air dry, if the ambient temperature allows. However, the skin should not stay wet.

After bathing, we hydrate the skin with a special product for babies with olive boiled and cooled oil.

When choosing the baby clothes, make sure materials be natural, which lets the skin breathe and clothes have the right size so they are not too tight. Dress it in layers so that you can take off some clothes when it's too hot.

How many times they grow, the nails must be cut short so as not to scratch the skin of the face.

The diaper must be changed at least 6-7 times a day.

Last but not least, how many times on your baby's skin appear signs that something could be wrong (darker portions, dry, flaky, redness, swelling, blisters) presentation to the paediatric is mandatory to rule out serious problems and receive proper treatment.
